Privacy Notice

What information this website collects, how it is used, and your rights under POPIA and UK GDPR.

Last updated: 6 September 2026

This website is run by Alexander van Twisk, a biostatistician and PhD student at the University of Cambridge who also offers statistical consulting. This notice explains what information the site collects and how it is used, in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and, where it applies, the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).

Website analytics

Every page on this site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from, and what kind of device and browser they use. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects usage identifiers for this purpose, and Google may process this data on servers outside South Africa and the UK.

I only ever look at this data in aggregate, to see what is useful on the site and what is not. It is not used to identify you, and it is never sold or shared.

If you would rather not be counted, you can block cookies in your browser settings or install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Contact form and email

When you use the contact form, your submission (name, email address, and whatever you tell me about your project) is processed by Formspree and delivered to my email. If you email me directly, the same applies without the Formspree step.

This information is used only to respond to you and, if we work together, to provide the consulting you have asked for. It is never added to a mailing list, shared, or sold.

Blog and RSS feed

The blog’s RSS feed contains only the published posts. Subscribing happens in your own feed reader and sends nothing to me. There are no comments, newsletters, or mailing lists on this site.

Client and research data

Data shared with me during a consulting engagement is handled under the confidentiality terms we agree at the start of the project: stored securely, never shared, handled in line with POPIA, UK GDPR where it applies, and the conditions of your ethics approval, and deleted after the project closes if you wish. See the FAQ on the Services page for more.

Your rights

Under POPIA and UK GDPR you can ask what personal information I hold about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. Just email me and I will sort it out.
