I meet you where you are
Every research project is different, and so is every request I get. Some researchers bring me in at the start to help plan their study. Others come to me with a dataset and a deadline. Many need help writing up results their supervisor or journal reviewers will accept. Some want support through the entire process.
There’s no wrong time to ask for help. Here’s what I can do at each stage.
Study Design
Starting a new study or writing a proposal? This is the ideal time to get statistical input.
Getting the design right from the start saves time and strengthens your research. I can help you with:
- Sample size and power calculations: determine how many participants you need to detect a meaningful effect
- Randomisation strategies: design appropriate allocation schemes for clinical trials
- Study protocol statistical sections: write the statistical methods section of your protocol with the detail reviewers expect
Data Analysis
You’ve collected your data and need someone to analyse it properly. This is the most common request I get.
I work with a range of methods commonly used in medical and public health research:
- Exploratory data analysis: understand your data before formal modelling
- Regression modelling: linear, logistic, survival, and mixed-effects models for longitudinal or clustered data
- Survey data analysis: handle complex sampling designs, weights, and stratification correctly
Reporting
Your analysis is done but you need help presenting it clearly for publication or examination.
Clear statistical reporting is essential for publication and for your examiners:
- Statistical results sections: write or review the results section of your manuscript
- Tables and figures: produce publication-ready output that meets journal requirements
- Reproducible analysis reports: receive a complete, documented analysis you can re-run and verify
Or bring me in for the whole journey
If you’d like one person handling the statistics from start to finish, from your protocol’s sample size calculation through to the results tables in your final manuscript, I can do that too. Having a single statistician across the project means nothing gets lost in translation between stages.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost?
Rates are student-friendly. After the free initial consultation you’ll receive a clear quote for the work before anything begins, so there are no surprises.
How long will it take?
It depends on the scope: a sample size calculation might take a few days, while a full analysis with reporting can take a few weeks. Tell me your deadlines up front and I’ll let you know honestly whether they’re feasible.
Are you taking on projects during your PhD?
Yes, in limited numbers. I run a few projects at a time alongside my research, so I may propose a start date rather than begin immediately. Tell me your deadline up front and I’ll say honestly whether I can meet it.
What software do you use?
All analysis is done in R, delivered as a reproducible Quarto report you can re-run and verify. Your data can come from wherever it lives: REDCap, Excel, SPSS, Stata, or CSV exports all work, and you don’t need to use R yourself.
Is my data kept confidential?
Yes. Your data is stored securely, never shared, handled in line with POPIA, with UK GDPR where it applies, and the conditions of your ethics approval, and deleted after the project closes if you wish.
Can you speak to my supervisor?
Happily. A quick three-way conversation early on often saves weeks later.
Not sure what you need?
That’s completely fine. Many researchers aren’t sure which statistical methods apply to their project, and that’s exactly what I’m here to help with. Send me a brief description and we’ll set up a free initial consultation to figure it out together.
